It does capture based on motion within its range but doesnt have night vision. I have few recordings at night but cant see a thing in there as it pitch dark. You cannot arm/disarm the motion sensing of the individual cameras. Either they are are all armed or disarmed.

It runs on battery which lasts very long so I don't have to worry about wires. I hate wires so I automatically love this. Battery life is limited months is what I heard, although for my purposes , it looks like it will be on the lower end of that with 4 months. A firmware upgrade out of box stole about ~8% of my total life. The motion alert feature is great for when you are away, but I wish Nest would concede some short amount of video history for casual users. I can't say enough good things about the new app.

You also have the option to select how long you want each camera to record, after it has detected motion. A setting of 10 to 15 seconds is good. I guess my only concern is that it doesn't come with multiple ceiling mounts. And, I am also thinking that I am going to going to have to take these cameras offline and bring them inside during the coldest part of Michigan's winter.
